Leaving the dying Goku on Earth, Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan take Kami's spaceship to Namek in search of the Dragon Balls. Vegeta, already there, raids Namekian villages, and Frieza's lieutenants Dodoria and Zarbon land as well. Quiet Namek turns into a battlefield at once, and Earth's fighters are thrown into the logic of the cosmos. Whoever seizes the Dragon Balls first monopolizes the wish of the universe.

Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan set out for Namek aboard Kami's ship. After they arrive, the three stumble on Vegeta, who got there first, wiping out a Namekian village. Frieza orders his aides Dodoria and Zarbon to hunt survivors so he can gather all seven Dragon Balls and wish for immortality. Dodoria corners Krillin's group but is killed by Vegeta after showing too much of his power. Zarbon transforms, beats Vegeta once, and sinks him in a lake. Bulma tracks the balls with the Dragon Radar, and the Earth team is forced to search while hiding. The sight of Frieza's ship moored on the lake hammers home the gap between Earth and space. The struggle for Namek plunges into a three-way brawl among Frieza, Vegeta, and the Earth team.
